Copper Electroformed Fern Hoop Earrings
Unique, handmade dangle style earrings with natural, tiny Fern fronds collected near my home in Central Pennsylvania. The ferns are encased in a coating of pure copper by a method called Electroforming. The electroforming process uses a copper sulfate solution bath and electrical current to build a thick plating of copper metal onto organic objects, while maintaining textural and structural detail of the object. These Ferns hang from Hammered copper hoops on handmade, hypoallergenic Niobium ear hooks so they are safe for sensitive ears. I have Oxidized the copper for an antique patina before sealing it with a clear protective lacquer.
