Fordite Heart Necklace
Handcrafted pendant in .999 Fine silver with a an asymmetric heart shaped Fordite cabochon in a bezel setting and textured border. Fordite, or Motor City Agate, is made from vintage auto paint overspray that built up on vehicle transport racks. When the paint build up became too thick, it was removed and rumor has it that some auto workers took the material home and used it to carve shapes and cabochons with colorful, psychedelic patterns created by years of different paint layers. It’s origins began at the Ford Motor Company factory in Detroit, MI, but the trend later caught on at other factories as well. A little piece of US auto history, Fordite is now rare and collectible.
The pendant comes double hung on a 17” Sterling silver chain.
