Fordite Bullseye Necklace
Handcrafted necklace in Sterling silver with a one if a kind Fordite cabochon in a bezel setting. Fordite, or Motor City Agate, isn’t really an Agate at all. It’s vintage auto paint! Paint overspray would build up on the auto transport racks during production in the 1950’s through the 1980’s. When the paint build up became too thick, it was removed from the racks. Rumor has it that some auto workers took chunks of the paint home and began carving it, and using it for art. Now that cars are no longer produced in this fashion, this vintage paint has become rare and collectible. Each piece has its own unique pattern with hundreds of colorful paint layers. This piece has unique blues, yellows and greys mixed in.
Oxidized finish and hung on an 18” sterling curb chain.
